HOWLONG LIONS PARK

Public BBQ

A free riverside camping and picnic area on the banks of the Murray, five minutes' walk from town and provided at no cost through the local Lions club and council. There are water facilities for filling tanks, firewood for a small fire, and a lovely stretch of grass and picnic ground beside the water. Depending on the river level the shallows make a popular local swimming spot through summer, and caravans use the area further along the track. Two things to weigh up: the toilet block has been out of service for extended periods following flood damage, so check before relying on it, and the big River Red Gums here are notorious for dropping limbs without warning — worth choosing a site well clear of them. Space is tight at Christmas and Easter.
